Instagram Engagement Calculator
Calculate Instagram engagement based on followers: (likes + comments + saves + shares) ÷ followers × 100.
Engagement rate
Ratings are general guidelines and vary by niche and account size.
How to use this tool
- Enter your Instagram follower count.
- Add likes, comments, saves and shares from a post or matching post averages.
- Read engagement per follower; use the same formula when comparing results.
How it works
Instagram engagement is usually measured per follower: (likes + comments + saves + shares) ÷ followers × 100.
The result updates as you type and is labelled Low (under 1%), Average (1–3%), Good (3–6%) or Excellent (6% or more).
Use one post or an average of your recent posts for a steadier number.
Example
A post with 600 likes, 40 comments, 50 saves and 10 shares on an account with 20,000 followers has (600 + 40 + 50 + 10) ÷ 20,000 × 100 = 3.5% engagement — rated Good.
Limitations
- Some tools use reach instead of followers, which gives a different number.
- Ratings are general guidelines and depend on niche and account size.
- Story and Reel views are not included unless you add their interactions yourself.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I find saves and shares?
Open a post on a professional account and tap View insights to see saves and shares.
Why is my rate lower as I grow?
Larger accounts often have a lower engagement rate because a smaller share of followers sees each post.
How is this different from the TikTok calculator?
This one divides by followers, while the TikTok calculator divides by views.
